8 Days and 7 Nights - Small Groups Guided Tour

How could you enjoy better an Italian holiday if not by trying to speak the language, get in contact with locals and learn about Italian culture?
Choosing this tour means going deeper into all the aspects of Southern Italian culture, not just being told things by a tour guide, but experiencing them yourself, putting your hands in it and having the wonderful chance to talk to people and receiving the answers you need.

This tour is organized in partnership with Percorsi Linguistici Italian School.

Day 1   Benvenuti in Puglia – Italian course and tour introduction – welcome dinner
Benvenuti in Puglia!
After your check-it at your Hotel and a bit of relax, enjoy a welcome drink with the rest of the group to get to know your “classmates”, your Italian teacher and your guide! A general overview of the lesson and tour program will be given while you sip your drink and taste some traditional Apulian snacks.
Your Puglia food experience begins with a welcome dinner based on traditional local specialties and wine!

We suggest to flight to Bari international airport. Upon request we could book flight for you or we could arrange for you a private transfer from the airport/train station to your Hotel.

Day 2  Entry test, history of the Italian language, practical sentences – Polignano a Mare
The first lesson will be taken at your place between 9.30 and 12.30 and it will start with an entry test, just to assess your knowledge before setting up the objectives of the lessons. Following, you will learn a little bit about the history of Italian language, its roots, its influences, its main authors and the works that made Italian what it is today. Finally, let’s put our hands in it and learn the first useful sentences that you will practice already in the afternoon when ordering a coffee or asking for directions.
Lunch in a local restaurant based on traditional Apulian seafood and wine.
In the afternoon visit of Polignano a Mare, a characteristic Mediterranean fishing village that stands on a rocky cliff. Guided walking tour through the historical downtown with its houses and terraces directly overlooking the sea and ice cream tasting in a local Gelateria, where you can enjoy an authentic hand-made ice cream. Polignano is famous for its hand crafted gelato!
Return to the Hotel and dinner at your leisure.

Day 3   Italian style and culture in cinema – Mozzarella experience – Alberobello
What is Italy famous for? Food? Fashion? Lifestyle? Football? All of them of course! Let’s learn about all of this through movie scenes set in Southern Italy; you will learn new words, common expressions and Southern Italian lifestyle so that you can understand why Italians are the way they are!
After your class we will move to the countryside and we will visit a local farm famous for the production of Apulian organic cheese. Mariangela, the owner of the farmhouse will welcome you and show you how to make high quality hand-made mozzarella. She will prepare a lunch based on authentic local dishes and organic mozzarella, just made of course!
In the afternoon enjoy unique sightseeing of Alberobello “the capital of Trulli houses”, a UNESCO Site. Trulli are ancient 14th century stone houses with a round shape and a conical roof. Guided walking tour along the Trulli district “Rione Monti” and visit to St Anthony’s Church, the unique trullo church in the world.
Return to the Hotel and dinner at your leisure.

Day 4   Open air-interactive practice – Matera
A visit of the beautiful Matera is due if you are around here so a guide will lead you through the old city center, the so called “sassi” district, to tell you everything about its history, culture and art. During the visit you will also have the chance to solve little riddles (in Italian of course!) and to create small role-play situations to practice your Italian.
Rupestrian churches, houses, caves, and ancient streets create a unique and suggestive landscape, where Mel Gibson chose to shoot the film, The Passion of the Christ.
Matera is a UNESCO Site and this year is the European capital of culture 2019.
For dinner we will arrange for you a nice local food experience!

Day 5   A day at the market  –   cooking experience
Focusing on local products and vocabulary about what you can find in the market is one of the main tasks of the day; you will learn what a “cima di rapa” or “caciocavallo” is and how to face local vendors when it comes to bargain for the price. However, the best part of the lesson will be going to the market yourself and try to buy everything you need for the afternoon activity. Fun is guaranteed!
Today we will drive to Acquaviva, a typical town in the countryside famous for high quality onion production. After your class you will experience the local market walking through the vendor’s stalls.
Lunch based on authentic local food and wine.
In the afternoon we will move to a typical Masseria (farmhouse) where you will enjoy a hands-on Italian cooking class! We will teach you how to prepare Apulian traditional dishes with the products that you previously bought at the market. You will learn how to do fresh hand-made pasta!
Learning about ingredients, verbs and local recipes first and then cooking with an Italian chef in a Masseria.
Your “hard work” will then pay off… you will be able to enjoy the sumptuous Apulian dinner you have created, served with local wine. Return to the Hotel.

Day 6   talk about wine  –  Lecce
Wine, as food, is not only a drink to Italians but a lifestyle so, before a visit and tasting in a local winery, we will learn some vocabulary and useful words related to this fascinating world. Please note, the lesson will take place before the wine tasting and the conversation part will take place after the tasting. Everybody knows that a glass of wine helps speaking a foreign language!
In the morning after your Hotel check-out we will move to Salento area, the South part of Puglia region.
On the road we will stop in a local winery. Claudia will welcome you and show you the production area of the winery. We will have a private lunch with wine pairing.
In the afternoon transfer to Lecce city and Hotel check-in.  Lecce is the most important city of Salento area.
The superb beauty of its churches and elegant noble buildings attracts a great number of visitors, because this city is the capital of the Baroque art in the South. For this reason, Lecce is called “the Florence of the Southern Italy”.  Guided sightseeing through the historical center with the Duomo of Lecce, the 2nd century Roman amphitheater and the beautiful Basilica of Santa Croce. Free time for yourself and dinner at your leisure.

Day 7   Final test – Arrivederci dinner
This morning, as the tour comes to an end, we will take the chance to wrap up and to take a little final test to prove our improvements. Probably the words you will remember the most will be the silliest and funny-sounding ones but what will always be part of you is the greatest thing: il ricordo.
Lunch and afternoon at leisure in Lecce.
In the evening Arrivederci dinner based on traditional Italian dishes and wine.
